We use either an Orbit or a Nelson fan spray nozzle. We used the Rain Bird

until production was halted. We put extra glue on the face of the Nelson to

keep the face from falling off when particles clog the holes.  The Orbit has a

little less volume but is like watering with a knife. The Rain Bird was a good

mix of the two with a great pattern and good volume.

I use a whole array of water devices here at the nursery depending on the size of the plant(s) and how much speed I need to get the job accomplished. This could be a mist nozzle set to deliver a few ounces of liquid per minute to my 4" irrigation heads in the Pecan orchard that let loose 450 gallons of water per minute! :)

I liked the Rain bird also. Its great for fertilizing the 1801 flats that I grow. You can hit almost exactly half the flat going across when fertilizing without loosing water outside that square. We can go across 3-4 flats at a time that way and come back and hit the bottom halves. Some of the water heads have a different pattern of holes that doesn't have the same consistent flow that you need for fertilizing. For some reason, I can't find any fan shaped heads locally and just ordered a box of them-I hope the hole patterns are good. I have used the Nelson and the spray pattern is not as uniform, nor the quality as good.

Since we're on the subject of water breakers, what do you'all use for plugs?

I like the Wonder Waterer.

All of our seed and cutting production is only 3" off the heated floor so it's very gentle on plugs at radicle emergence. The WW is good for waist high benches but you need to water a little farther away from you. When we germed on high benches we would use the
Dramm Fog-it nozzle.

We made a manifold up with 3/4 PVC holding 3 of these nozzles. This setup is great for Begonias. The nozzles are available in 1/2 to 4 gal/min.

Our preferred nozzle is the Dramm with a short extension. The all metal model is darn near undestuctable and will last a lifetime if not lost or stolen.
