If anyone is interested in our winter 2010 condensing boiler installation please contact me. I have an Excel spreadsheet that does head loss calculations for pipe and pump sizing. I saved over 50% designing the system and purchasing the materials myself. I would be glad to share my load data that I used for our system. Anyone can do this with just a few basic numbers.

We just finished upgrading a house. When we originally built it we ran 2 1 inch copper heat lines underground over to this house from another house sitting beside it. No insulation. What a bad idea. Also the heating system in this house consisted of a Hot water unit heater and EDPM tubing on 2 rolling benches. (each bench had it's own zone valve and soil probe thermostat. The problem was in order to force the water through the benches we had to install a third zone valve that would shut the supply of water off to the unit heater and force it through the tables until the heat demand was met. This never worked well. So what we did was add a separate pump for the tables (and a second supply and return line.) Now we have one supply and return for the unit heater (on one pump) and one supply and return for the benches (on a second pump) We used Watts radiant PEX AL 1" pipe with compression fittings. When we got to the underground component we took a 6" solid corrugated Pipe and fed a foam insulation tube (from Insul-Seal http://www.insulseal.com/)through the corrugated pipe. We then fed the 4 1" PEX pipe through the inside of the foam insulation. Then we took 2 6" corrugated caps and drilled 4 1 inch holes in them and slid the caps over the ends of the pipes and attached the caps to the the 6" corrugated pipe. We used spay foam insulation to seal around the pipe ends to seal out water. We used polyurethane foam pipe insulation on the pipes wrapped with aluminum Tape. To insulate the PEX pipe in the greenhouses. We liked the PEX pipe as it is half the cost of copper and since the pipe has a built in aluminum sleeve the pipe has memory and will stay shaped however you shape it. System is up and running now and we are looking for an better heated house and a cost savings from no energy loss where our heat lines run underground.

We have an are continuing to build all our own structures. We do use kits from various greenhouse mfgrs. though.
