I absolutely refuse to fill out these surveys and census info. The problems I have stem from my days on the Farm. Farmers are asked to fill out these surveys all the time. By the time the crops are planted the Government already has printed statisti…

We got a call late last night from USDA during a survey about what we grow. No problems with that, but when they asked how many we sold of mums, hosta and another perennials. I said I didn't know. Then she said that will be a no response to the surv…

becky, yes we grew these last year, and they were outstanding! the only thing we are changing for 2010 is making more staggered plantings as they bloom in a tight window.

If you have had this plant for less than two weeks I would suggest you ask the florist that sent you the plant to replace it. The insects may have been present before you received it. Often times the pretty potted plants sent are made up for a prett…

Becky, it sounds like this plant has been overwatered in addition to having some critters living at the bottom of the pot. I suggest repotting the plant and washing all the old soil off the roots. Trim off any dark limp roots since they are dead and…

WOW..haven't seen that ad. Now even if they only had a limited amount so only a few customers got the poinsettas it does take the price out of anyone else selling them. I agree why does any business do this? Yes no matter what the quality of the pla…

Hi Steve, If you like Burgundy Chrome, wait until you see EasyWave Neon Rose. This is my favorite of all the wave colors. It has a beautiful color and a super habit. It will be revealed during the 2010 pack trial.

Wave Petunia Burgundy Star is one of those varieties that really does better with 'less' feed. If it receives a lot of feed it tends to go all solid. Cooler temps will also help with its color pattern. Over 600 Wave Fan Club members received a sampl…

I have one grhouse that I divide in half in January for about a month. I just take a large piece of plastic (left over from covering the grhouse) and slide it under one of the hoops, at least 12 " so it doesn't slide off. I have a break in the shelv…

Any of you get a phone call from the USDA about a survey?

We got a call late last night from USDA during a survey about what we grow. No problems with that, but when they asked how many we sold of mums, hosta and another perennials. I said I didn't know. Then she said that will be a no response to the survey. What do you think about this? Any concerns if they are asking too much?

Question for greenhouse owners?

We are changing our heating to the greenhouse with hotwater using an outdoor wood furnace. So with that we are changing my growing area. We want to use poly to make a curtain but with the hoops we have the brackets will not let the poly hang down. So how do we do it? I know all of you have done this, but just can't figure it out. Pictures would be good but any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Becky from Becky's Greenhouse Iowa
