Michael I am happy to hear that you will continue to contribute to the forum. Your input has been appreciated by me and I am sure many others. I cetainly understand what it takes to grow crops year round. Some time off is well deserved.
I would be i…
Roger, I will skip a year and see how things go. My total decision to not grow a poinsettia crop after 35+ years is not totallt based on the economics. A lot has to do with the number of hours in a day and ones quality of life. As you know I propaga…
Sunday is our 2nd best day of the week, dollar wise. If Saturday is rainy and Sunday is nice, Sunday becomes the best dollar day. We are in Massachusetts and many people are not as religious as in other parts of the country. They tend to expect that…
We're open Mon-Sat 9 to 7 pm. I'm always in a couple hours earlier than that, so if I get my watering done early enough, I'll turn the lights on and open early. On Sundays, we are officially closed, but I will go in after church and water, during wh…
I applaud stores that close on Sundays. It tells me they have other priorities in life and value their employees. I'ld be a loyal shopper. Also, stores like Walmart that are open on Thanksgiving...I'ld rather go without than shop in a place like tha…

Although we would like to be open until 6 Mon-Fri. we all have families and play softball- so 530 for us for atleast one more year. Discussing 6pm for 2011. I think that last half hour makes a difference with com…
Hi Jen: Sid's has never been open on SUndays in the 40 + years we have been in business. We are closed Sunday's for religious reasons. On the positive side it is great for recruting - never having to work on Sunday and everyone gets at least the sam…
I believe there actually is a commonality...gardeners appreciate fresh, high quality plants and service. In New England, Home Depots are actively aware of the missing link..to maintain product, and service. Having been an independent for many years, my thoughts are; there is enough for both sectors. The independent can maintain relationships, and offer unique variety. That being said, I believe any entity offering live goods should present quality plants, excellence of service, and all will succeed.
Unfortunately I won't be in Louisville this year. We are going on a family vacation to Ecuador, and my kids would kill me if I took a weekend of their trip.
I am ordering a copy of your presentation. I really am sorry I will miss it. There is a magical feeling when you leave Louisville with a "to do list" of great ideas, and a month to do them before the season hits.
Congratulations in your new position as Editor of Today's Garden Center. Ann-Marie, Kevin, Richard, and company did a great job while you were out. It's great to have you back.
Great. I have been planning to watch the movie again. Maybe at least the intro. I'm not much for remembering movies but that one is a classic even for me. I still haven't finished anything on that piece. I have it here in the top of my pile to figure out what to do with it. Glad I sat on it a while. You were a big help.
